Nasya

Nasya is one of the five main therapies of Panchakarma in Ayurveda, focused on cleansing and nourishing the head region. It involves administering medicated oils through the nasal passages. Since the nose is considered the gateway to the head (shiras), Nasya directly impacts the brain, sinuses, eyes, and ears. It helps balance the doshas—especially Vata and Kapha—and clears accumulated toxins (ama) from the upper channels of the body.
This treatment is commonly prescribed for conditions like chronic headaches, sinusitis, migraines, allergies, cervical spondylosis, and neurological imbalances. It is also effective in managing dryness of the nose, hair fall, memory loss, and stress-related disorders. The process usually begins with gentle massage and steam on the face, shoulders, and chest to open the channels, followed by the instillation of warm medicated oil or ghee drops into the nostrils while lying down.
Beyond its therapeutic role, Nasya is considered rejuvenative and preventive. Regular practice, known as Pratimarsha Nasya (daily nasal oiling in small doses), is said to protect the senses, improve voice, enhance skin luster, and delay aging. By nourishing the tissues of the head and improving prana flow, Nasya not only relieves disease but also supports mental clarity, emotional balance, and overall vitality.
