Ayurveda Massage

When most people think of massage we, think relaxation, working out knots and tightness. But massage is a whole lot more than that. Charaka Samhita (Ancient Ayurvedic text) says it is:

The main purpose of abhyanga (Therapeutic Ayurvedic massage), is to assist the removal of toxin from the body by stimulating the blood and lymphatic circulation, so that it can be easily eliminated.

At Atma Ayurveda meridian and marma therapy are also worked into the treatment.

MARMA and MERIDIAN THERAPY:

Often during periods of stress, whether it be work, relationship, family, or just wearing yourself too thin, tightness and blockages begin to form in certain areas of the body. This occurs in junctures where two or more tissues, muscles, veins, ligaments, bones or joints meet. These are called marma points in Ayurveda, or acupressure points in Chinese medicine.

Meridian lines, are energy lines that run along different regions of the body. There are several points along the meridian that correlate with different emotions, allowing us insight into possible trapped or unresolved emotions.

The use of marma therapy and meridian therapy helps with release of emotional, spiritual and physical burdens.

What to expect in an Ayurvedic Massage?

A session is typically 60min-90min. Ayurveda has a range of medicated oils designed for different purposes. ( Pain relief, strengthening, reducing inflammation, assist in bone/tissue repair, relaxation, stress/memory). Upon a mini consultation prior to the treatment, we will choose the medicated oil to be used in your treatment. The treatment is then customised to your needs. We can focus on a specific area/s to work out knots and tightness or do a full body relaxation massage. A range of massage techniques will be used on each area to first bring blood circulation to the area before we work to remove tightness and tension.
